We went to a barbecue last week. It was already July, remember? Mid-summer. I wore, on top of my underclothes:
- a vest
- a polo-necked jumper
- a winter-weight cosy jumper
- thick socks
- and to top it all off, this ...

I was – just about – warm enough.

I don’t really want to ‘like’ this post if you see what I mean! My Yorkshire pal, also Margaret, has been keeping me in the picture about your weather although ours isn’t much better. Looks better after Wednesday but it always seems to be jam tomorrow with my weather app.

Grr. All the same, mustn’t grumble. It was Ripon Theatre Festival at the weekend with lots of street entertainment planned. The forecast was appalling – but the sun shone almost every minute.

I prefer a pessimistic weather forecast, providing my clothing is adaptable.

That’s true. It’s nice to be surprised rather than disappointed.

What, no thermal undies. Those barbecues are always the one where everyone is indoors except the cook and assistants

same here, except on a ‚lighter‘ scale. I bought, for the first time since my return to my native Switzerland, a season ticket for our little ‚strand beach pool‘, where you can (could) swim in a pool or in our little lake. I was ONCE there so far. Seems pretty expensive and investment! Had however already one BBQ and will/should have another one on Friday to come…. I have my thermals ready!

The cold wind keep blowing up is really making me quite bad tempered. I, too, am still in winter layers, and we had to light the fire again last night. Sunshine this morning though, albeit with a lot of cloud 🌤️

Yup. Be fair. We had summer the week before last.

Still waiting for our summer week. We had an hour or so on Friday.

Same here. And a bit on Saturday and today actually.

You’ve gone all ‘Southern Softie’. That sort of behaviour could get you expelled from Yorkshire!
I’m still proudly (stupidly?) in my shorts, just like the postman.

Nay lad, I’m just nesh, me. Always have been. There are lots of pairs of shorts being sported round here. But not by us.

Don’t complain! We have a kind of heat wave coming up this week (finally ?-!) and I have a cold, hanging around at home, nursing a sore throat, a cough and a running nose.

Nooooo. Get better soon and enjoy the heatwave.

I’ll do my very best. Status account: Sore throat is less, sneezing is more. Judging by my husband, I’ll be mostly coughing tomorrow!

Not me. I thought Grimsby was in Yorkshire, but it turns out not . But it still qualifies as ‘up North’, where it’s ‘grim’.

Was once annexed and became Humberside but we are safely back in Lincolnshire now.

Oh, no! I had to smile though. Nothing like a bbq under an umbrella.

We ought to be used to it really. Plate juggling with a brolly is an Extreme Art Form.

Hahaha. If you don’t laugh you would cry with this ‘summer’.

I feel your pain! Mostly because we are sharing it (though today is rather nice). By the way, reading your list I think your mistake was probably not wearing trousers.

It was in my head to mention the trousers – of COURSE I wore some. But thoughts didn’t reach keyboard ….

I layered up too for our visit to Wimbledon today. We had tickets for Court Two which has no roof and the forecast was depressing – 75% chance of rain! But we had a lucky escape as there were only a very few spots and we saw three full matches. Just the same, I needed my warmer clothes 😀

We had friends also on Court Two on Rainy Friday – but they managed to sneak into Number One during a break in the proceedings.

Looking smart! That can happen at the lake, too, though it’s rare. I hope the barbecue dinner and hospitality was as warm and cordial as your outfit.

It was of course all great fun. And we were all suitably bundled up in warm clothes. That’s how it is here in 2024!
