Goodness me. Christine and Max, our French friends from our days in Laroque arrived on Saturday, and it’s only Tuesday today. Look what we’ve crammed in….
An orientation session in Nidderdale, taking in a few views….

A peaceful morning at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal……

A visit to another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Salts Mill in Saltaire……

…. where we enjoyed David Hockney’s Arrival of Spring exhibition, featuring the Yorkshire Wolds…

The Five Rise locks at Bingley: a narrowboat was making its slow upward progress through the five locks as we arrived…

A mooch round Haworth, home to the Brontë sisters….

And views, views, always vast, always bounded by drystone walls, always different.

We’re having a rest tomorrow.
Looks and sounds like a fun time in the countryside shared with friends. Great to follow along. Enjoy your rest day! Lift a glass and enjoy!

You’re making me nostalgic for Yorkshire. God’s own country, as a Yorkshireman of my acquaintance frequently reminds me (and he’s not even religious).

You should be nostalgic for Yorkshire. It is indeed GOC, religious or not.

Good heavens! You must be exhausted–what amazing hosts you are! I especially love the photo of the drystone walls.

They are wonderful. Do you have them at all?

We have unmortared stone walls but I don’t know if that makes them the same. Where I live in upstate New York is very rocky and farmers pick stones out of their land so they can plant. The stones get piled up to make the walls. I remember my father and grandfather being exhausted after a day of picking stones.

I’ll bet. They do sound much the same, and the tradition of building them in the same way continues to this day.

What a lot you have to see around your area – no wonder you’re proud to show it off. The weather looks fine and everything is so green. Great photo through the doorway.

Thanks! Yes, the pay-off for all that rain is the lush green-ness.
