There are some fun memes popping up among book bloggers as 2022 ends, All you have to do is answer (almost certainly untruthfully) a questionnaire, using only the titles of books you have read this last year. I’ve chosen two.
Here’s the first, introduced to me by Booker Talk
In high school I was: What was promised(Tobias Hill) ⭐⭐⭐
People might be surprised by: (the) Ashes of London (Andrew Taylor)⭐⭐⭐
I will never be: Dolores (Lauren Aimee Curtis)⭐⭐⭐, or Cecily (Annie Garthwaite)⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ or Joan (Katherine J Chen)⭐⭐⭐⭐
My life post-lockdown was: … I’m staying here (Marco Balzano)⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My fantasy Job is: (on) The night boat to Tangier (Kevin Barry)⭐ ⭐⭐
At the end of a long day I need: A God in every stone (Kamila Shamsie)⭐⭐⭐
I hate being: Early one morning (Virginia Baily)⭐⭐⭐⭐
I wish I had: The wolf den (Elodie Harper)⭐ ⭐⭐⭐
My family reunions are: National Treasures (Caroline Shenton) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
At a party you’d find me: Night crawling (Leila Mottley)⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’ve never been to: Otherlands (Thomas Halliday)⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐
A happy day includes: Best of friends (Kamila Shamsie) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Motto I live by: Common decency (Susannah Dickey) ⭐⭐⭐
On my bucket list are: Owls of the Eastern Ice (Jonathan Slaght) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
In my next life, I want to have: Shrines of Gaiety (Kate Atkinson ) ⭐⭐⭐
The next generation discovers the joy of reading
Then Cathy introduced me to Shellyrae’s version. Well, why not?
2022 was the year of: The sweet indifference of the world (Peter Stamm)⭐⭐⭐⭐
In 2022 I wanted to be: That bonesetter’s woman (Frances Quinn) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
In 2022 I was: Taking stock (Roger Morgan-Grenville) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
In 2022 I gained: Small things like these (Claire Keegan) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
In 2022 I lost: Miss Benson’s Beetle (Rachel Joyce)⭐⭐⭐
In 2022 I loved: My phantoms (Gwendoline Riley) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
In 2022 I hated: Red milk (Sjón) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
In 2022 I learned: To cook a bear (Mikael Niemi) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
In 2022 I was surprised by: Things that fall from the sky (Selja Ahava)⭐⭐
In 2022 I went to: The Underground Railroad (Colson Whitehead) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
In 2022 I missed out on: Midnight at Malabar House (Vaseem Khan)⭐⭐⭐⭐
In 2022 my family were: Between the assassinations (Aravind Adiga) ⭐⭐
In 2023 I hope (for): The romantic .. (William Boyd) … Silver shoals (Charles Rangeley-Wilson). Both ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Because all but four of these books were borrowed from North Yorkshire Libraries, which continues, even now, to buy a wide range of appetising new books, I dedicate this post to Bookish Beck’s Love your Library
A twofa! There are only two memes I post, this one and Six Degrees, both such fun in their very different ways.

They are, aren’t they? Note to self. Start planning January’s Six Degrees soon!

Are you absolutely sure that the next generation is not trying to swipe down on that picture book?

Quite possibly. Though this little charmer isn’t allowed anywhere near screens yet.

Margaret, I love looking at your book lists. What a list! There are two books where we intersect, or books I’ve read that end up on your list – the owls and the Underground Railroad. You read much more than I do and I love perusing your book titles. Keep reading and sharing. Have a Happy New Year. Peace on Earth.

Lots of different versions of this one. I will try to do one in mid-January (my blog is full until then)!

Gosh, you’re a dedicated blogger. Looking forward to your list later, then.

Ah so that’s how you managed to do both versions!
Now of course you have my imagination racing, trying to think exactly what kind of job you would be doing on that night boat…..Hmmm

Lovely picture of little ‘un enjoying a book. You read such a variety, I’m terrible for sticking to the same authors or genre. I’ll give some of these a go! Happy New Year Margaret, all the best!

It’s reading book bloggers that has encouraged me to read more widely. In the press, I tend to read reviews of what I know already might interest me, but bloggers bump me up against all kinds of interesting stuff. Happy New Year to you too Helen, and a happy year of new adventures.

This is such a fun meme and great to get a sneak peek into what you have been reading. I see you got to Otherlands before I did – glad you enjoyed it!

I really got stuck into Otherlands. I had to have my phone by me all the time so I could look up every weird and wonderful creature that got mentioned. Hope you enjoy it too.

I’m always tempted by these sorts of memes too and who knows… maybe one day! Meanwhile, love both your ‘lives’. Several there that I hope I’ll get around to one day and several more which intrigue me. Not too sure about the family assinations though… 🤔
I’m sure it will come up again but Happy New Year 😊

Well, if you are ever tempted t re-enter the world of blogging, nobody will be better pleased than me. And no, we didn’t have any family assassinations. Just an eviction served on a mouse who’d decided to join the family, and who is now, we hope, experiencing life in a nearby field. Happy New Year to you too!

Absolutely fantastic. I always see these tags and think I have to do them, as well. But … so little time … Still, I might take you up on this.

Thanks for the honourable mention. For my part, I cannot begin to imagine reading whilst riding an – albeit immobile – bike.
