Midweek Monochrome of Mossyard

Google photos has a happy habit of reminding me of what I was up to this day one year, two years, three years (and so on) ago. Today it pointed out that in 2020, just after the worst of Lockdown was over, we escaped briefly to Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland. And there we discovered Mossyard Bay.

Let’s take a virtual trip: there’s not a fairground ride, amusement arcade or kiss-me-quick hat in sight.  There’s not even a chippie.  Just us, the rocky shore, and the sea, advancing or retreating with the tide. Happy memories, translated into monochrome.

  4. Ah the monochrome works well for the shoreline of the retreating (?) tide. The simple contrast makes the rock strewn scene rather dramatic – could there be a wreck soon to be revealed?

    1. It is a wonderful place – I have strong memories still. It was a perfect spot to start recovering from that strange period of isolation during the pandemic. This was isolation in a good way!

  17. These work so well in monochrome. I really must do more B&W photography, it can be extremely effective. Mossyard Bay looks lovely and looked a little familiar so I looked it up and see that it is practically opposite a place we drove to one evening when we stayed in D&G. We were on the opposite side of the Big Water of Fleet at Carrick Beach. Equally stunning and equally remote.

      3. It was before we moved to Cornwall. We decided that it was too far a journey for our children (that worked out well… ) However, with the state of politics in this country, Scotland is looking very appealing.
