Wipe them on the mat shoes?

When my children were small, this poem by Frida Wolfe was a favourite:

Choosing Shoes

New shoes, new shoes,
Red and pink and blue shoes.
Tell me, what would you choose,
If they’d let us buy?

Buckle shoes, bow shoes,
Pretty pointy-toe shoes,
Strappy, cappy low shoes;
Let’s have some to try.

Bright shoes, white shoes,
Dandy-dance-by-night shoes,
Perhaps-a-little-tight shoes,
Like some? So would I.

BUT
Flat shoes, fat shoes,
Stump-along-like-that shoes,
Wipe-them-on-the-mat shoes,
That’s the sort they’ll buy.

Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge this week invites us to look for shoes, boots and slippers. I wonder if I can find anything?

It turns out I can find shoes, boots … but no slippers. Will sandals do instead?

There’s always Zoë …

… and …

      1. They really don’t work on cobbles, do they? Excited for the youngsters, who are moving furniture in today. We are supervising vinyl floor laying by WhatsApp. Next door here scaffolding is going up for external painting so we’ll be happy to head north tomorrow. 🤣💗

      1. How many cats do you look after???? I’m hoping that “Marie’s goes on the market next week” doesn’t mean what I read that sentence as meaning… 😂

      1. I’ve never been a girly girl, but I did like nice smart low heel shoes….can’t think of the name. But I can’t wear them any more

  1. What a lovely poem, I haven’t heard that before. Sadly I have always been very much a bare foot, flat sandals, clogs sort of girl, though I did have several pairs of pretty court shoes back in the day I wore suits for work. Fabulous choice of photos too!

  2. Love all of this post, Margaret. I never had stilettos (to hard on my back, feet, and balance) and only have very short heels on my infrequently worn dress shoes. I get the idea of wipe them on the mat shoes although ours are more leave them in the back hall shoes. We have indoor and outdoor shoes which helps keep out the ever-present dust and dirt here, especially when wiped on the mat first. 🙂

  3. That is a fun poem and we see already Zoë has star quality. A natural in front of the lens. I can’t offer fancy heels, but I can do colour. I have one pair of grass green boots and another of dark pink. Both CATs, bargain purchases in a sale, price GREATLY reduced, guessing the bright colours put people off.
