I’ve selected this goat for my Monday Portrait this week. And the header image shows a troupe of different ones – Anglo-Nubian goats from Surrey Docks City Farm.

You can never have too many photos of goats

Indeed you can’t. Though best pay attention or they’ll eat your scarf.

My understanding is that they’ll try to eat pretty much anything

Why, indeed. I thought the second goat was sweet.

Secretly, so did I. So that’s why I let her (him? I don’t remember) sneak in.

Why is it that goats always make you smile?

I know! I think it’s their utter self-confidence and cheekiness.

Well, they all look cool and pretty happy to have their portraits taken or did they just think you were edible.

Almost certainly the latter. And the former.

They are, aren’t they? Even as they help themselves to your clothing.

Nothing like several photos of goats to start my week. As a matter of fact, this may be the first time ever!

What a strange place for a goat farm! I kid you not, Margaret.

Ho ho! It’s a City Farm, rather than a goat farm. Gives a slice of country life to city kids, and adults with learning difficulties, among others. They get the chance to care for animals, grow things and generally get their hands dirty. Don’t tell me your James has never been to Meanwood Valley Urban Farm? We used to love it when we lived in Leeds.

What fun, Margaret. Their expressions are great. Are the goats in a zoo? It looks like an urban area.

It is. Urban farms are in most British big cities, They’re educational rather than being productive farms in the normal sense of the word, giving access to farm animals and the thrill of growing things to people, especially children, who wouldn’t normally have access to this kind of experience. I love taking my grandchildren when we’re in London – there are lots to choose from.

It’s a great idea. I know people keep bees in the city. Why not animals?

Exactly. Those goats seem happy enough, don’t you think?

Haha, there is something about goats…. And they seem quite keen on being photographed – or were they just curious?
