Autumn past

Autumn has only just begun to kick in properly this week: surely that’s quite late? So I’m celebrating the season today for Past Squares, by choosing shots from this week – last year.

  1. oh this is such a lovely start to autumn, we’ve got the grey, wet and blustery one down here – in fact thunderstorm weather alert all morning. Maybe I’ll drive Mum to yours this morning rather than to Somerset!

  2. I’m not sure that it’s late, Margaret. Some seasons are a long time coming. I always think of Autumn as late October, and if it’s a good one, still hanging on for my birthday in early November. I hate when it’s damp and gone in a dreary mulch. Cosy nights a-coming?

    1. Oh, my elder daughter is a Bonfire Night baby, and I always used to think of that as the end of autumn and beginning of winter. Hmm. Cosy nights? I’d sooner have endless light evenings

    2. I agree, late October is usually when you see those colours appear, after the first frosts. But we have had a mild September and October this year which must be making a difference. I think most of the leaves will be blown off before they can change colour.

  3. I agree that it’s late this year. Storms and winds down here today. Often happens in mid-October and usually blows the majority of leaves down. Leaves still firmly attached at the moment. Beautiful evocation of golden autumns passed in your squares though. Very much nicer than looking outside right now.

  4. What a lovely composition. I always notice that just as some trees seem to blossom early so too some yellow late, but it’s all part of the cycle and symphony of autumn. Just a few yellow on the trees outside on one side of home and very different on the other as the leaves fall daily onto the roof of the car. Thanks for the pics, such a pleasure to view. 😊

  5. A lovely blast of autumn colour. We only have one small wood nearby which shows some colour changes, the beech trees hang on usually. I must take a walk down there and see what is happening, but last week everything still seemed quite green.

  6. I agree autumn seems late this year, although we’re starting to see colour here too now. Your pictures sum up the season so well. I love the pheasants and that leaning tree (second row, left hand) is lovely 🙂

    1. I’m particularly fond of that tree – glad it’s caught your eye too. London next week on Granny Duty. I’ll be interested to see where autumn has got up to there.

  7. Lovely photos Margaret ( although from last year) on this beautiful sunny Autumn morning. I haven’t ventured outside yet but I think a few more layers might be necessary.
