I spy with my little eye a bird that’s beginning with ‘G’

Bird weekly this week is looking for birds beginning with ‘G’. I don’t have all that many examples. But gulls, obviously gulls. There’s a whole row of them in the header photo.

I have a shot of herring gulls looking imperiously down over the town of Whitby, and a black-headed gull fossiking on the beach there.

Then there are guillemots on the Farne Islands…

We’ve all heard of sheep dogs. But did you know they can turn their minds to herding geese too, if required?

    1. So do I. Although one memory is of watching the sheep dog trials at Masham one year, and seeing the shepherd fling down his stick in disgust and stalk away as his dog managed NOT to herd the sheep, time after time. I suppose the memory sticks because actually, this almost never happens.

  8. So glad to see you found the time to get your “G” birds together. I love the herding of the geese. The Herring Gull was primed for the photoshoot and made sure you got the best side…worthy of a GQ cover. LOL! The guillemots are another life bird I’d like to see. 🙂

      1. Nope, we don’t have them in Florida. They are called Murre here and are in the northern part of North America. They can be seen offshore along the pacific coast of the US and Canada. They breed in Alaska and Canada. 🙂
