Spring Yellows, from Aconites to Buttercups

So many of our favourite springtime flowers have cheerful sunny faces., beginning in January with aconites, then going via celandines, daffodils, marsh marigolds, primroses, dandelions and cowslips to glorious meadows of buttercups in June. Here are just a few of them.

I can’t end the post though, without reminding myself of the crowds, the hosts of daffodils in the woodland slopes of the Pyrenees, nearby to where we lived in France. The French don’t have the same love affair with the daffodil that we have here in England, but this was a spectacle I’ve never seen bettered anywhere.

  1. Pure nostalgia there, Margaret! The primula are my favourite, I think 🙂 🙂 I was going to combine with Jude, but then went in a completely different direction. Have a happy Saturday!

  6. That’s a great show o yellows, Margaret, and like Jo, I love the primulas. And I love the Imelda o fellow wild flowers and the yellowish lichen on the dry stone wall…colour and texture!

  13. Ah yes, just what’s needed on this grey drizzly day. I popped out on the one sunny day we’ve had in the past few weeks and was delighted by patches of glowing celandines. We have primroses too but it was the shiny celandines that boosted the spirit.

    You missed out yellow crocuses but luckily I have some of them. The French daffs have the bonus of those views. But have you ever done the Farndale walk in spring? Lots of daffs around there and lambs when I was there, admittedly a long time ago.

    1. I missed them out because I didn’t have a photo … until this morning when I saw some in the grounds of the cathedral. No, I’ve never actually done Farndale in the spring, and this year of course it’s too far 😦

      1. Well maybe if you can get there in April? I am sure it was April when I went. On the website it says “Depending on the weather, the daffodils are usually out between mid-March and mid-April”

  16. Oh yes, yellow is the colour of spring for sure! I love the primulas and cowslips, but my favourite is the lichen covered drystone wall – taken in the Dales I would guess? And those French daffodils are quite a sight 😲

    1. Really, it was. And I was always so disappointed not to see more civic displays of daffs in France – or even many in people’s gardens. Portugal tool hot I suppose?

      1. No there are daffodils there, they appear in January/February but not large numbers – at least not in the south. Never been in north of country apart from Porto
