Top Spot on a Tip-top Pot

We were due to walk part of the coastal section of the Cleveland Way this week.  We looked forward to taking over from where we’d left off last year, and to having a windswept, scenic and invigorating walk along the cliffs edging the North Sea.  Covid-19 put a stop to that. So – you can either read here about last year’s walk, or – as we did – admire these herring gulls on their lofty look-out posts in Staithes.  Maybe, just maybe, you’ll be able to read about the postponed walk later this year.

  8. Some of this virtual walking and travelling is great entertainment during lockdown, but some days it just makes me want to get out there! Talk of your walks, Margaret, has got my feet jittering!
    That aside, this is a great 6-worder – excellent use of Ts and Ps

  10. Ah, Staithes is a pretty place. I once stayed in Runswick Bay and we were woken at dawn every day by those noisy gulls! I walked to Staithes along the beach (in a hailstorm) stopped for hot chocolate and toasted teacakes and then walked back along the cliff top. A fabulous part of the country.

  11. We’ve just cancelled our holiday to St Abbs in June. So disappointing, as I’ve been wrangling to go to Scotland for years and I’d actually managed to get R to agree to one this year. Only just across the border, but it would have been a start…..
    Sorry you’ve had to postpone your walk. I hope it won’t be too long before we can get out and about again.

  12. Surely, surely it will not be a whole year before we can walk freely (socially distancing?) along our beautiful coast. I do so want to be optimistic. By the way aren’t herring gulls enormous when you get close, quite mean bruisers altogether!

  13. I lovely this photos and I am very fond of gulls – I like their sassy spirit and they are very handsome too.
    Yes I also yearn for places I know I will not see for quite some time. But then I pay attention to what we do have. It is extraordinary how busy we are during lockdown! I am now trying to catch up on reading your blog posts! This is our best gardening time of the year so quite a bit of my time goes there. It is cooler and the soil is lovely and moist from unusually good autumn rains in our region. There was snow in the mountains this week so a definite nip in the air, especially at night. Enjoy your springtime.
