The other day we got this postcard in the post. It’s from a friend, deciding against constant Social Media communication in favour of something a little more personal. It’s a lovely idea which I plan on copying. There’s just one problem. We can’t read the signature, and we don’t recognise the handwriting – who does any more in these days of emails?
Who is our Mystery Friend?*
* Clue. We don’t think it’s Jonah. Or the whale.
Think I am going squared eyed as I am puzzled by this brilliant postcard!

Oh, how funny! You’ll have to hope they read your blog 🙂 🙂 I do still send hand written postcards to a chosen few.

It’s a great habit, which I’m going to copy. But I think I’ll have to print my signature.

I print the whole thing! 🤣

Well it wasn’t me though my handwriting these days is pretty bad. I hope you find the sender.

So do I. It looks like ‘Brian’, but our one and only friend called Brian denies any involvement.

I wondered if it was Jo but obviously not. English stamp?

Yes. First class too. And no blogging friends know our address. Mystified.

Family? 🙄

I have such a small family that I really DO know everyone’s writing – and it’s just a little formal in style too – far too polite for a family member!

I will. Apart from anything I feel bad about not saying ‘thank you’. But what to do?

It’s Jonah and the Whale from the Ranworth Antiphonal. Norfolk links? https://www.broadsideparishes.org.uk/bspicons/antiphoner/jonah.htm

That is super-sleuthing indeed. But our correspondent is using postcards acquired over the years. And we know nobody in Norfolk. But I’m impressed with your research. Thank you! xx

Well, this is certainly one to exercise the little grey cells, and induce a bit of headscratching! Is it someone who would normally send you a Christmas card? Do you keep them from year to year and so you could compare the writing?

It’s a good idea … but I no longer have the cards 😦

That’s a shame.

I visited earlier and came back to see if the mystery sender has identified themselves. I wonder if someone might help interpret the signature if you posted that bit.

I did consider that, but felt a bit uncomfortable about it, since I couldn’t ask permission of the sender!

Ours didn’t close. But getting stuff delivered is another matter.

Did it say “having a whale of a time”?

I was glad to look at the link provided by Penny to see that depicted is Jonah escaping from the whale and not being swallowed by the whale.
Perhaps the card was a random act of kindness from a friendly stranger? Perplexing though!

I think no random stranger here. He/she knows too much about us! The mystery remains unsolved.
