We’re Going on a Treasure Hunt

This week’s Lens Artist Challenge has us going on a Treasure Hunt.  I didn’t think I’d participate at first.  I am, after all, a snapshot-ist rather than a photographer, and I know that the photos I value are weighted with memories rather than  with a photographer’s skill.

But it’s been a grotty weekend (again) and a trip through the archives has been fun, and wakened many memories.  So let’s go…

  • Challenge Items: Sunrise and/or sunset, Something cold and/or hot, a bird, a dog, a funny sign, a bicycle, a seascape and/or mountain landscape, a rainbow, a church, a musical instrument, a boat, a plane, a waterfall.
  • Extra Credit Items:  An expressive portrait of one or more people, a very unusual place, knitting or sewing, a fish, an animal you don’t normally see, a bucket, a hammer, a street performer, a double rainbow, multiple challenge items in a single image.

And now it’s time for bonus points:

If you click on any image that appeals to you, you’ll find a bit of a story about it.  Then more easily ‘visit’ all the photos in that series. Thanks Tina: I’ve had fun hunting through the archives.

  1. 🙂 That ‘danger de mort’ thing really did it for me! Thanks Margaret – I’ll return to my endless unpacking, throwing away, sorting out, giving away, with a happy smile on my face!

  2. A wonderful selection of treasures, which of course all photos are, even or probably more so, the snapshots as they invoke memories. The rainbow is sheer genius 🌈😍

  3. What a marvelous gallery Margaret. So glad you decided to join us and that it helped to pass a “grotty” day (a new word for me!). Loved the little story with each image. You are no snapshot-ist my friend!

  4. As always you do yourself a disservice when you say you’re not a photographer. I’m still having trouble with this website but think I might have cracked it. I’ve been following you with interest and not disappeared for good.

    1. Well, thanks Kathryn. WordPress seems to be being quite awkward for a lot of us – bloggers as well as commenters – recently, so thanks for persisting. Did you notice that none of my photos was from France? I’ve yet to organise all of them … a life’s work?

  5. You may be a snapshotist, not unlike myself, but you have some great captures here, and a slack handful of memories, Margaret! And that’s often what the challenge is about, isn’t it? I informed Mick that we are doing Carnival in Cadiz next year- apparently they have a 10 day celebration 🙂 🙂

      1. I know I could be couldn’t I, but actually it was that I got soaked on Monday, soaked on Tuesday, blown around on Wednesday and snowed ‘at’ yesterday morning. I suppose we shouldn’t complain as it winter.

  6. I love the IVF knitted bubs! So adorable. And as others have already noted, the photo of the lady filleting fish tells a story well. Treasure hun tis a great idea for a photography challenge. Well done, Margaret.

  7. I always enjoy your photos and you have such a good eye and I agree that describing yourself as a snapshot-ist sells yourself short. I like all the photos in this interesting collection but the Hull Minster and tuba reflections and the Korean pond with ascending clouds of vapour I noticed especially.
