Finds on an evening walk

We don’t often go walking in the evening.  But yesterday we did, and found ……. orchids – I only know the last one, the bee orchid, by name…..

…… trees stalking the skyline……

…… inquisitive young calves huddled together: they thought we were scary ..

….. and best of all, this sheep.  Naughty thing, she’d escaped from her field, and was having a high old time eating the contents of this wheat field.  We told the farmer when we saw him later.  Was he bothered?  Not a lot.

I wonder if she left this wool behind?

      1. He got out our Collins flower guide. I had no idea there were so many types! Others look more like it in the flower clusters, but have spotted leaves, so can’t be right.

  1. When we lived in France, our own area had over 60 varieties easily to be spotted . And I gather there are far more than that. Back then, I could identify about 5 – 6 of them. But that was then……

  2. Taking a walk at a different time of day than usual means you see the world very differently, right? I like the photo of the wool shreds on the fence–took me back to a trip to Ireland where we found the same thing. And re: the flowers–do you have a smartphone? I just got an app called Picture This that identifies flowers and plants when you take a photo of them. Pretty cool.

    1. My smartphone is a bit basic, but it’s worth a look to see if it would support your app. Thanks! I’d like one too that does the same kind of thing for birdsong.

  3. Rainy walks, evening walks… I love how things look different at different times of day and in different conditions. I generally find there’s something peaceful about an evening walk; I suppose because the busyness of the day is done. Your walk looks so inviting. Love those orchids and the stalking trees!

    (Pssst…. I’ve started it….)
