Winter’s not been around in recent years, not really. Those crisp snowy days we all seem to remember from our childhood, those snowball fights, those Jack Frost patterns etched our bedroom windows, those chilblains – all seem to be ancient history.
This week in London, where we had an early unofficial Christmas with William and family, winter arrived for one day only before becoming sunny and mild again. Look at these ducks and gulls in the local park, standing in puzzled uncertainty or ineptly skating on a frozen pond. One day only was quite enough for them.
I love the mallard staring at his own reflection … do you think he was admiring himself or wondering if he had a rival down there?

I think he was trying to pluck up the courage to put one foot in front of the other. He was so indecisive.

ha ha haaaa…… wonderful thoughts, wonderful pixies, baffled duckies 🙂
Send them to Switzerland at any given date; there IS snow enough and ice and fun and accidents galore! (not fun!)
Here in France there are no signs of winter either, for the moment, which is OK seeing that not many people have winter equipment on their cars.

No signs of winter with you? There have been plenty where I used to be, in the Ariege. Snow with a vengeance. Enjoy the calm while you can!

I hope you have a lovely Christmas as well. Didn’t you get the snowy weather everyone else but us got 10 days or so ago then? xx

A nearby village which is higher than we are had snow. We are slightly lower and close to the coast so heavy frost but no snow.

I too love the pics and the commentary – so funny! Particularly love the baffled expressions in the first and last pics.

‘Baffled’ does indeed just about cover it. I guess many – most – of those birds had never been faced with ice before. I’ll drop you a line later. Hope things are going according to plan.

I love the mallard photo too! At least this year we have had much more frost and snow than last year and the year before together!
A very Merry Christmas to you and yours, Margaret!

Brr indeed. But it’s gone all mild again now.

Probably even your “mild” I would consider to be really, really cold!

8 degrees? Is that OK?

Not really. In our winters here, 8 degrees is closer to our minimum!
